Product Review – The Lowdown on the Go Pro

 

The Go Pro series of action cameras have redefined the genre of what action

cameras can do.

 

The latest cameras from Go Pro, the Hero 3+, can be used in almost any situation.

If you can think of it, so has Go Pro.

 

The cameras come in three different models being White, Silver and Black with the White Model

being the most basic and Black being the premium camera in the range with a wifi remote.

 

Upon opening the box the first thing you notice is the lack of instructions, these can be easily

found online via Go Pro’s website.

 

The vast range of mounts is what makes the Go Pro, such a great device.

From surfboard mounts to bicycle mounts and vehicle mounts, wrist mounts to ski pole mounts,

the camera can be set up as many ways as your imagination lets you.

 

The surf mounts available to surfers, now give a birdseye view of whats it’s like to be in the water,

see what happens under the water or to simply to see what it’s like along the wave.

 

To get started there are numerous video’s on YouTube that show you how to mount the camera,

whether it is on your wrist or via the surfboard mounts.

 

If you’re taking the camera into the water, there is two things that are required.

The first is anti moisture tabs and the second is a floaty back door.

 

Even though the camera casing is waterproof, there can be an accumulation of moisture inside

the casing.

 

In the case of a nasty wipeout, the bright orange floaty backdoor helps the camera float with a

positive buoyancy and is easily identifiable.

 

Once you have your footage it’s time to edit.

 

There are many programs out there thatyou can edit your footage however the two most common would the Go Pro Studio program that can be downloaded from the Go Pro website or Apple’s iMovie.

 

Both programs allow you to edit the raw footage, then add graphics or a soundtrack.

 

If you decide to upload your slick new production onto YouTube, then it’s good practice to select the royalty free music option, specially if you have a monetized account.

 

The editing software in YouTube, lets you edit things like stabilization, colour correction and

contrast.

 

Much of using a Go Pro is trial and error but it is also a lot of fun when it captures that perfect

moment or that perfect wave.
